Kaito PLL Synthesized Dual Conversion SSB Shortwave Radio with Recordable 256MB MP3 Player, KA1121 User Reviews

Took awhile to try and understand the poorly written owners blue-collar. The instant initiation blue-collar is useless except you maybe calculated this radio/mp3 recorder. The blue-collar has been updated at the Kaito web site. First problem I had is the mp3 player would not exchange the bit rate for recording. It was stuck at the buck quality 32kbps and would not exchange. Tried contacting consumer benefit on the web site but know one ever answers emails. No tech support any. With by the radio/mp3 recorder for aprox. 5 weeks (recording one show a week for an hour), the set alight on the mp3 play bunged working. Tried contacting consumer benefit over again for warranty benefit. no reply.Splendid radio but poor mp3 recorder. I've owned two of these radio and both became useless. They both safe and signal up and became unuseable. No tech support or renovate benefit.

They must have read my mind. I have a KA1102 which I premeditated a classic, and I had been hoping that Kaito would make a radio akin to the KA1102 that would also play MP3s. Needless to say, I was more than ecstatic when this manufactured goods magically appeared. I previously listened to my MP3s on my cell phone which has a speaker that sounds like a cheap tin can. The sound feature of the KA1121 is very good for a radio of its size, and there is little need to mention the legendary Kaito greeting that is much best than most portable radios. The radio performs very well so long as it is unplugged from the wall and running on the batteries. There are lots of nice features that you would guess from a Kaito radio, counting SSB, line in, and tuning knob. I above all like how I can give a new lease of life the batteries lacking removing them. It has a cool flat black close that feels rubberized. The MP3 player chains USB 12Mbits/following Full Speed(not V2.0 480Mbits/following High Speed) and file transfers are fast. You plug a USB plug into the KA1121 MP3 player and it shows up in Windows Examiner as a comes off drive, so you can austerely drag and drop files to it. The MP3 player has a cool green glow which stays on all the time you are using it, even if there is a time out background to automatically turn off if you wish. Now for some of the issues that need some enhancement. The LCD on the radio is too small. You need some sharp eyes to see the tiny array indicator. The buttons do not light up like they do on the KA1102, and the size of the radio is further than the pocket category. The MP3 player sight truncates long MP3 file names, and even even if it scrolls the MP3 name crosswise the LCD, the scroll rate is too slow and requires too long a wait to scroll to the end, and even with the scrolling, very long file names still get truncated. In the case where the MP3 is playing, the information stored in the MP3 title tag gets displayed as a replacement for of the MP3 file name. File name truncation is a problem if you want to listen to a logic of MP3s with long file names. I have to manually rename and shorten the MP3 file names and tags. I use a freeware curriculum called Mp3tag to do this. I also feel that the method of timed tape to the MP3 player is too intricate and the blue-collar is not clear ample on this. A couple of times, I ran into serious harms where the MP3 player became degraded during download of MP3s or while deleting MP3s. When the corruption happens, the MP3 player will not work and all the MP3 files are lost. My pad has never had any USB issues with any other USB devices, so I am blaming Kaito for the corruption problem. Kaito does mention that if the MP3 player stops effective, to use the included helpfulness disk to reformat it, so Kaito rumor has it that is aware of the issue. I'm not sure why they did not fix the problem previous to relief. The included helpfulness disk reformatted the MP3 player, but the MP3 player still would not work, so I then formatted the MP3 player from Windows Examiner as FAT32 and then it worked again. The MP3 player indeed needs some improvements, but I will still give the KA1121 five stars austerely since I premeditated this manufactured goods to be impose a curfew breaking and competing radios don't even have an MP3 player. The KA1121 is a high normal AM/FM/SW weather radio and MP3 player/recorder with many features and few shortcuts. If you need MP3 capability then buy this. If not, you might premeditated the KA1102 or KA1103. I listen to MP3s often, and I enjoy the KA1121 very much. I have upgraded the batteries from the included 1300 Mah NiMH batteries to higher room TENERGY 2300 Mah NiMH with good results.UPDATE: A fix for the MP3 player corruption issue above seems to have been found. A comment from passband.com Thursday, May 8th, 2008 - "What causes this is the `1121's electrically noisy AC adaptor. To get almost this, either take out the adaptor plug from the radio or undock the MP3 module previous to early an upload." or they urge replacing the power charger with a less noisy one. Jameco P/N 283573 $6.95 with a Radio Shack Size H Coaxial DC Power Plug $2.99 Model: 274-1571 they say is effectual.

Great uncommon to the Pogo telephone logic! Sensitivity and signal quality are greatly better for greatly a cut-rate amount of. I can not confirmation stations ended 1,000 miles dead on AM that additional radios can't flush refrain in to. Kind mass telephone logic, super portable MP3. Bookmarks bring about splendid.

I bought the Kaito 1121 mainly because I've been looking for a portable,full-range(3.000-30.000m)sw radio including the intention of also has the NOAA weather stations. Thanks to Kaito, the quest is ended.I no longer have to use two radios while listening to sw and NOAA stations. The sw greeting is extremely good(greatly better than my Grundig 300).AM/FM greeting is good, and the signal feature is extremely good, considering its mass. Most of the external casing is rubberized, building for a comfortable believe and for damage protection if dropped. The suede reside in-pouch has a thong,so one can reside in the radio like it's in a shopping bag.The LCD ruins on when the radio the stage, and its affect is a moody green.A splendid asset of this radio is the get behind-pin number control.I had my doubts in this vicinity this map,for approximately radio number-reins do a indigent job of conniving number,i.e.,there's too greatly of a jump between number intervals. But this is not the explanation including the 1121,for the screen-displayed number control is terrifically coordinated. When the number buttons are set to frequencies on different bands, you don't have to chat bands for the desired stations, for the radio does it for you.I can't annotation on the mp3 player because including the intention of's a additional planet to me aptly now.I'll be asking my 18-time-old nephew to assist me on this one the then time I see him.To me,there are two main drawbacks:the LCD is too tiny;and at era the addict blue-collar is poorly written. It took me in this vicinity 4 living to map out how to set the buttons to selected frequencies, mainly because the instructionsomitted the continue step in the administer and I figured it out by trial and blunder. There's also no indicate-strength meter. But all things painstaking, the Kaito 1121 is a splendid extent for a sw/am/fm radio.

My touchtone phone logic at home including no bubble/air wrap in the Amazon box to care for the touchtone phone logic's packaging, which force yield reasons for why the tuning bulge was separated early the surplus of the touchtone phone logic, but it snapped in trade into house basically, and has caused no additional harms. As the additional reviews top out, the joystick are not intuitive, to say the nominal amount. Thankfully, simplified directions can be downloaded early this touchtone phone logic's manufactured goods leaf on Kaito's web locate, as water supply as a FAQ & assess early a touchtone phone logic assessor named Art Simon-I *greatly* urge viewing his FAQ; it's as nominal amount as caring as the simplified addict handbook, if not moreso. The built-in batteries (for in cooperation the MP3 player and touchtone phone logic) at home near absolutely drained, and it took in this vicinity thirteen hours to get them all completely exciting. The MP3 player is what I would encourage "fussy", in including the intention of it took a few tries to get it to conveying approximately MP3's and converse by the book including the touchtone phone logic-I had the most excellent good luck formatting it by the firmware updating software (also early the manufactured goods leaf on Kaito's web locate).I don't know Kaito now uses a newer AC adapter, in check over of the fact including the intention of I may maybe not see any shared class blast go caused by the adapter on any of the frequency bands as in succession the touchtone phone logic on AC (the blue-collar flush recommends in succession the touchtone phone logic on array potential as listening to AM or shortwave, but be fond of I understood, I couldn't caution any alteration between array and AC potential).Flush including all my observations privileged than, I'm delightful I purchased the Kaito 1121. It does all it promises, and I be fond of its normal. Only delight be attentive it may pocket a little to get the touchtone phone logic effective by the book and to get acclimated to its joystick.

This is all I needed for the way I use SW radio. I take note with a pad lecturer after going to bed. When I fall sleeping the auto off takes over. I never use the lecturer and seldom the MP3.I have owned portables at three times the cost but this radio is just great as far as SW goes today and surely for the way I use it.With the on the rise WI FI radio market I have noticed many if not most of the SW stations are gone. But when one listens to radio on the computer it is easy to see why this very old equipment is actually sweet much relegated to purists, CW operators and third world countries where computer ownership penetration of the market is not high.I was out of SW for about 5 years before purchasing this radio and it is great but if I had it to do all over WI FI hands down. If you have a desire for an excellent modest SW radio, you cannot beat this one.It has more facial appearance than most will ever use. It can be operated simply in the dark with a bit of study at the out set. The dial face is hard to read for geezers like me that need glasses, since the letters and dial are quite small. All equipment painstaking, for this price point there is no best to my restricted information.

Great sound pro a tiny wrap save pro you cannot think it over what is on the display cover lacking a magnifying glass. The surgical course of action of the unit is a nightmare. Push this pin 4 era to do this and this other pin 2 era to do including the intention of, and including the intention of. and including the intention of. and including the intention of. It takes a month to map it all out and if you don't aid the radio pro a month you will have ended and done how to aid it. So currently you initiation all ended ended again going owing to the surgical course of action blue-collar which is on paper up extremely poorly.

The built-in MP3 recorder is a great perception, but mine broke within the initially hour of use. I indifferent the player to put a battery in, and with the intention of was it. The attachment logic of the MP3 to the telephone logic is flawed, in my attitude, and the MP3 constituent feels low-cost.The telephone logic itself is not bad, but there are better options by Kaito.

It's in this vicinity calculate a name came out including a touchtone phone logic including a built-in MP3 player. I own 5 additional Kaito SW radios and this is by far the most excellent. The release harms I be inflicted including encountered are including the intention of the MP3 will release lobby 99 minutes in a pointer. To overload extra minutes, you be inflicted including to initiation additional directories. The additional drawback is including the intention of as you potential off the touchtone phone logic, the MP3 player doesn't pocket up again early everywhere you gone off but reverts to the at the initiation draw collectively in a outline in the pointer. It also doesn't keep any only one of its kind settings, for mind, if you set it for mix up mess about, it will revert to habitual manner including a potential off. Additional than these faults, the release additional enhancement looked-for would be a better storage space. Overall a splendid touchtone phone logic.

I'll list my pros and cons:Pros:-Great telephone system reception.-Can be planned to turn on, confirmation telephone system, then turn off. That's the main reason I bought it.-Can do line-in MP3 recording-Has a detachable MP3 player.-Great speaker for unit it's size.-If you use rechargable batteries (AA size), they can be recharged in the unit.Cons:-The user blue-collar is awful. For several of the functions it "put me in the ballpark" but I had to map out the rest for myself. Very frustrating. An owner's blue-collar shouldn't be so bad.-The planned telephone system recording doesn't give you as much time as the Pogo. Your only given three recording slots and each goes 99 minutes maximum for a total of 297 minutes. The Pogo can confirmation all day long if you have a huge SD reminiscence card and a low reminiscence confirmation setting.-Reminiscence of MP3 player is small and there is no expansion slot.-Brainwashing the unit for auto turn on and confirmation is clumsy and can be frustrating.Other issues:I have had the MP3 player hang up on me. I had to format it with the computer's built in software to get it to work again. In view of the fact that then it hasn't had a problem. (The included disk is almost worthless!)If you import your own frequencies by editting the FREQ.TXT off the desk, make sure you chop off the notes from the bottom of the text or it won't work. The blue-collar doesn't tell you this. I like how you can load up your own frequencies with your own ID's for each.Keep in mind that there is variation in short press and long press for the telephone system on/off button. Long press off keeps the telephone system on but shuts off the screen. In summary: If your impatient then I don't urge this unit as the user blue-collar is terrible. If you're patient and like to fiddle with equipment then eventually you'll map this unit out and will be able to enjoy it. I'm glad I made the hold.
