UPDATE: October 3, 2009:Unfortunately the stereo fm option did not work at all on my KA12AIR radio, so I sent it back to Kaito for a new unit. It was shipped by Kaito from CA on Wednesday by USPS Priority Mail and arrived in New Mexico early now (Friday). Now that is service for a ~$6 shipping and handling fee!In my opinion, they are definitely inane to sell a bunch of these fine units at this fee.The KA12AIR radio is a super small sack sized unit and almost identical in size to the Sangean DT-400W that is so ordinary right now (with full am/fm and weatherband capabilities). In fact it is also a re-establish surrounded by the Aluminum front shell of the Kaito KA105 radio which apparently didn't sell very well, probably because of its slow band scanning and its very limited shortwave greeting capabilities (~5.95-15.6 MHz).Pros:1) Very miniature in size and also reasonably light, the KA12AIR is a PLL (Phase safe and signal loop) digitally synthesized and most likely (at this fee) a single conversion IF (Intermediate frequency) radio, consistent with the KA105 point and with a lone (single) bandwidth (but well select) with good fm greeting and splendid air-band greeting (118-138 MHz) with no bleeding from the fm band that I have discovered. This bleeding is in fact a common gripe a propos the Grundig G6 am/fm/air-band radio that also sells for double the fee of the KA12AIR radio! This could be a problem for especially weak signals, but at least it does have a single step DX/community switch (for controlled signal reduction for interfering signals) that works as noted higher than.2) The lone bandwidth doesn't call attention to the low frequency end of the spectrum so fm music audio listening owing to the otherwise good quality on-penetrate lecturer is limited.3) It doesn't even come with a slip-cover defending case, presumably to keep their overall costs to a smallest.4) It is too bad that a well-matched am greeting logic could not also be void on this otherwise very fine radio.

This radio has many faults. I was hoping I could hear the transmissions of the tower and pilots from my 30 ft high balcony at my home 17 miles from the airport but I can only hear the pilots. When I'm at the airport, the tower is barely readible. Also, you have to take the batteries out of the radio with each use since when you turn it off, the recite stays on and you lose your battery life. Not my idea of a good radio. I have since terrified it in a box by no means to use over again.

I enjoy monitoring the Aircraft band and have stored about 40 point frequencies since purchasing this radio. For such a small radio it does a real nice job getting signals. I am not located near any towers so I primarily take note to the pilots transmissions. The radio, as confirmed by others does not have an flexible choke so there is a steady white noise when no transmission are expected. All in all for under $50.00 this is a fun and very portable radio that tunes you into the civil airband (note: this radio does not have air force air). The inclusion of the FM announce band is a nice extra.
